RadScreenShots

RadScreenShots support.

Answers to common questions. RadScreenShots requires macOS 27 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon.

Where is the app after I open it?

RadScreenShots lives in the menu bar, not the Dock. Look for the viewfinder icon: four corner brackets around a small square. Click it for every capture, recording and setting. To see the welcome window again, choose Help → Getting Started….

Captures fail or show a blank screen

macOS requires Screen Recording permission. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording and turn on RadScreenShots. In the app, Settings → Privacy → Open Screen Recording Settings… takes you there. If the change doesn’t take effect, quit and reopen RadScreenShots.

Where are my screenshots saved?

By default, a new capture is copied to the clipboard and shown in a floating preview, where you can copy, save or edit it. In Settings → Screenshots, you can choose which kinds of capture are copied (area, window, full screen, scrolling) and turn the preview off. Nothing is written to a folder until you choose one. To save every capture automatically, open Settings → Files, turn on Automatically save captures, and choose a save folder.

What does “waiting for save folder” mean?

If the save folder is unavailable — for example a disconnected drive or a folder whose permission was removed — RadScreenShots keeps the capture safely on your Mac instead. Open Pending Saves from the menu, then use Retry once the folder is available, or Save Elsewhere… to choose another folder.

Keyboard shortcuts

Shortcuts work from any app and can be changed in Settings → Shortcuts. The defaults are:

Record Window, Record Full Screen, Keep Recent Clip, Capture Text and Review and Capture Previous Area have no shortcut until you assign one. To clear a shortcut, select it and choose Remove Shortcut.

If a shortcut doesn’t respond, another app may be using it. Choose a different one, or use Restore Default Shortcuts.

Capturing the same area again

Capture Previous Area captures the area, window or display you captured last, right away, which is handy for before-and-after shots or a series. If it was a window, the same window is captured wherever it is now. When you start any capture, the previous area is outlined faintly; press Return to use it, for example to read the text in the area you just captured. If that area is no longer available, the normal selection opens instead.

Copying text from the screen

Capture Text copies the text in the area you select and shows a brief “Copied to clipboard” note, so you stay in the app you’re using. Capture Text and Review opens the text in a window instead, where you can edit it or summarize it with Apple Intelligence. Text is recognized on your Mac in over 30 languages, including Arabic. If lines mix scripts, such as Arabic and English, set the text language in Settings → Screenshots → Capture Text.

Recording video and audio

Choose Record Area…, Record Window… or Record Full Screen… from the menu. Choose your area, window or display on screen, then press Record in the toolbar that appears. System audio and microphone are off by default. Turn them on with the Microphone and System Audio buttons in the toolbar. The microphone needs permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. Saved videos go to your recording folder. A recording that isn’t saved yet, or couldn’t be saved, waits in Unsaved Recordings (in the menu) until you save or delete it. The first time you press Record, RadScreenShots asks where to save recordings; after that they save there automatically. You can change the folder with Options → Choose Folder… in the toolbar, or in Settings → Recording → Recording folder. If you skip choosing a folder, each recording opens in Review so you can save it yourself.

Apple Intelligence features are unavailable

File names from content, screenshot understanding and text summaries use Apple Intelligence (Apple’s on-device model), which requires Apple Intelligence to be available and turned on for your Mac. When it isn’t, the app shows the reason, and capture, markup, text recognition, saving and recording keep working normally.

Start at login

Turn on Start RadScreenShots at login in Settings → General. It is off until you turn it on.

Contact

For technical problems or feedback, email support@radhub.dev. Choosing Help → Contact Support… in the app adds your version and build number to the subject. We read every message, but we can’t always reply individually.
